the context

Harbour Bay Downtown is a waterfront district in Batam, Indonesia — 45 minutes by ferry from Singapore. It has 7 international hotels, 64+ restaurants and cafés, shops, nightlife, a wellness area, and an international ferry terminal that connects the district to Singapore and Nirup Island.

The project was a website for the district: a single destination that helps visitors and locals discover everything Harbour Bay has to offer — where to stay, eat, shop, and spend an evening.

the challenge

A district guide website serves a very different purpose from a single hotel or resort site. There's no one product to sell — there are dozens of businesses, categories, and types of visitors, all needing to find different things quickly.

The design had to work as a clear, navigable directory without feeling like a database. Warm enough to inspire a visit, structured enough to actually be useful.

the design

Navigation was organized around how people actually move through a place: Stay, Dine, Shop, Nightlife, Wellness. Simple, intent-based categories rather than an internal business taxonomy.

The homepage was built as an entry point that orients the visitor — key stats (7 hotels, 10 minutes to Nagoya City, 64+ restaurants), an interactive map, and a highlights section — before leading them into the categories that match what they're looking for.

Supporting sections cover events and promotions, ferry schedules, a district map, and information for people considering living or working in the area. Each section follows the same visual logic, making the whole site feel coherent even across very different content types.

outcome

The site is currently in development. Harbour Bay Downtown now has a web presence that reflects the character of the district — approachable, easy to navigate, and useful from the first visit.
